You lie there
wishing stars were cracks in the ceiling
remembering me as a bitter daydream
you wanted to come home
I gaze steadily,
passenger seat window.
The guard rail is swept away
you forget your weakness for me
I still feel it

Darkness peeks through
closed living room blinds
Rough moving shadows
cast by static lighting
offset and balanced by dim
fire-glow from another room
Quiet speaking
An argument from far off places
you will never see
Relaxed roars, hums, and whispers
The freeway never sleeps
“only three hours now”

An old skeleton
walked up stairs with an ancient
fever. His head held
sideways--
his fingers through
his sinuses, trying to feed his lover
--the fever.
They walked together
on the landing.
And he would
have held her hand, but
his fingers were locked
inside her.
They walked together
to their bedroom,
and as the door closed
they began to burn.

Three Minutes

It wasn't until you left
that I realized there were other people here
who could hear everything I said
and see everything I did
I forgot temporarily
that you weren't the only person
in the room
and now I have to sit here
trying to remember everything I could have done
in front of these people
to embarrass myself

Your Self Worth

This thin air reverberates
with fatigue and introspection, so I'm
breathing hard and fast, low
This purple-gray, fleeting surround
the color of my blood vessel fills my eyes,
heart beating, slow
I cannot communicate
for fear of it being distinctly heard
and criticized by all within range
I can't, I know.
So let me stay here.
I'm staring at the wall
thinking about everything
no one cares about but me,
and thinking about how
beautiful these thoughts
and how pitiful
these ideas
are.
